Frank Hayek, born into a family of musicians, initially pursued engineering studies at the University of Minnesota. However, his passion for singing emerged during his time there, where he performed as an amateur in concerts and operettas. Recognizing his talent, the famous tenor Mario Chamlee advised him to pursue further vocal training in Italy.

Hayek made his professional stage debut in 1928 at the Opera House in Faenza, performing in Puccini’s La Bohème. Following this, he gained recognition in various Italian cities, including Turin, Parma, Bari, Venice, and Palermo, and even performed at the Royal Theatre in Malta. His operatic career in Italy was followed by a successful transition into the world of sound films, first in Italy and then in England, eventually leading him to Hollywood. There, he appeared in musical films alongside stars like Grace Moore and Gladys Swarthout.

In 1935, Hayek performed at the Chicago Opera in Boito’s Mefistofele, sharing the stage with the renowned bass Ezio Pinza. His career also included guest appearances in San Francisco, Cairo, Oslo (where he performed with Toti dal Monte), and at the prestigious Teatro alla Scala in 1932.

After moving to Los Angeles, Hayek recorded several records for Excelsius under the name Franco Foresta. These recordings were later reissued on the Italian label Italo Disco under the name Francesco (or Franco) Forti. His diverse career spanned both opera and film, leaving a lasting impression in both mediums.
