Description
THEO KARLE (THEO KARLE JOHNSTON) (PERRY, IOWA, JULY 30, 1895 OR 1893 – SEATTLE, WASHINGTON, MAY 07, 1972)
He studied singing in Paris and made his debut at the Opéra-Comique as Almaviva in G. Rossini’s Il Barbiere di Siviglia. During the 1927-1930 seasons, he was active in France, performing at both the Opéra-Comique and the Opéra de Monte-Carlo. In 1930, he returned to his native country and, until 1934, was a major star of the Columbia Broadcasting Radio System. From 1933, he also taught singing at the New York School of Vocal Art, while continuing his career in concert halls.
