JACQUES BILK (1882 – 1927)

 

 

 

 

He began his career at the Stadttheater in Metz, where he performed from 1906 to 1909, and then moved to the Stadttheater in Freiburg, where he sang from 1909 to 1912. In 1912, he was engaged by the Städtische Oper in Berlin, where his career reached its peak. His repertoire included Masetto in Don Giovanni, Scherasmin in Weber’s Oberon, Count Eberbach in Lortzing’s Wildschütz, Kothner in Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg, the Father in Humperdinck’s Hansel und Gretel, Storch in R. Strauss’s Intermezzo, Rigoletto, Valentin in Gounod’s Faust, Nevers in Meyerbeer’s Les Huguenots, and Homonay in Johann Strauss’s Die Zigeunerbaron.

In the 1923-1924 season, he served as the director of the Landestheater in Neustrelitz, and from 1924 to 1927, he held the same position at the Stadttheater in Kiel. He also made guest appearances at the Hofoper in Munich, the Semperoper in Dresden, and the Opernhaus in Leipzig. He recorded for Vox, Artiphon, Edison, and Gramophone.
