ZITA FUMAGALLI RIVA (MILAN, 20 NOVEMBER, 1893 – NOVELLARA, 12 OCTOBER, 1994)

 

 

 

 

She studied with Salvatore Cairone and debuted in 1920 at the Teatro Dal Verme in Milan. In 1922, she sang at the Teatro Carcano in Milan, and by 1924, she achieved great success at La Scala in Carmen. She had a significant career in leading Italian opera houses through the 1930s, performing at venues such as the Teatro San Carlo in Naples, Bologna, Turin, Venice, and the Arena di Verona. After retiring from the stage, she worked as a pedagogue in Milan. Among her notable pupils were Raina Kabaivanska, Gianni Maffeo, Bonaldo Giaiotti, Leo Nucci, Ottavio Garaventa, and Franco Tagliavini.
