CARMELO ALABISO (MONTAGNANA, 25 FEBRUARY, 1886 – MILAN, 11 JUNE, 1966)

 

 

 

 

He studied singing under the pedagogue Tenaglia and made his debut in 1913 at the Teatro Sociale in Asola as Rodolfo in La Bohème. In 1916, he appeared at the Teatro Carlo Felice in Genoa in the premiere of R. Leoncavallo’s opera Goffredo Mameli.

From 1919 to 1920, he sang at the Teatro Costanzi in Rome as Dick Johnson in G. Puccini’s La Fanciulla del West. In 1919, he was also at the Teatro Donizetti in Bergamo, where he appeared in the premiere of the opera La Vampa by A. Ravelli.

In 1923, he made his debut at La Scala as Baldo in the opera I Compagnacci by P. Riccitelli. At La Scala, he also sang the role of Rinuccio in G. Puccini’s Gianni Schicchi and Julien in G. Charpentier’s Louise under the direction of A. Toscanini.

During the 1927-28 season, he appeared at the Teatro San Carlo in Naples. In 1930, he performed at the Teatro Massimo in Palermo in the premiere of the opera Dafni by G. Mulè. In 1932, he guest-starred in the Italian Opera in Holland.

He retired from the stage in 1934 and subsequently taught singing in Milan.
