PYOTR ABRAMOVICH (AVRAAMOVICH) KHVOSHCHINSKY (ST. PETERSBURG, JUNE 12, 1882 –MOSCOW, 1920)

 

 

 

 

Born on June 12, 1882 in St. Petersburg. After completing a course at the Moscow Cadet Corps in 1900, he was assigned to a special class Corps of Pages, and in 1901 he was promoted to Page of the Chamber. On August 10, 1902, he was promoted to Cornet of the Cavalry Regiment. That same year, he began studying music with Professor N. A. Sokolov of the St. Petersburg Conservatory.

From 1905 he attended music classes with the composer N. N. Cherepnin. In 1908, Khvoshchinsky left the regiment and was appointed to serve at the Ministry of Internal Affairs. At the same time, he studied the presentation of a musical work for orchestral performance with N. A. Rimsky-Korsakov, and managed to take several lessons from him, since he died in the summer of that year. Then he studied music with A. K. Lyadov and V. P. Kolomzhan.

During the First World War, he was the head of the regimental school with the rank of lieutenant colonel. In 1919, he was arrested as a hostage and imprisoned in Butyrka prison. In 1920, he died there of typhus.
