CAROLINA LAZZARI (MILFORD, CONNECTICUT, USA 1891 – STONY CREEK, CONNECTICUT, USA 1946)
She was born into an Italian-French family and received her education in Bucksport, Maine, and Milan. In 1917, she was engaged by conductor Cleofonte Campanini to appear at the Chicago Opera, where she made her debut as Giglietta in the American premiere of P. Mascagni’s Isabeau. She achieved great success in roles such as Dalila in C. Saint-Saëns’s Samson et Dalila, Pierotto in G. Donizetti’s Linda di Chamounix, and Cieca in A. Ponchielli’s La Gioconda.
In 1918, she made a guest appearance at the Lexington Theatre in New York, partnering with Amelita Galli-Curci in G. Meyerbeer’s Dinorah. In 1920, she was engaged by the Metropolitan Opera in New York, where she appeared in a single performance as Amneris in G. Verdi’s Aida.
In 1921, she performed the role of Amneris at the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires. After this, she focused on concert singing and teaching, maintaining a private studio in the Metropolitan Opera building in New York.
