ALFONSO GARULLI (TENOR) (BOLOGNA, 2 DECEMBER 1856 – BOLOGNA, 28 MAY, 1915)

 

 

 

 

He had a distinguished career at major Italian opera theaters, including notable engagements at the Teatro San Carlo in Naples (1884) and the Teatro Costanzi in Rome (1888). At La Scala, he was featured in several significant productions: he appeared in the 1887 premiere of Spiro Samara’s Flora Mirabilis, performed as Samson in Camille Saint-Saëns’ Samson et Dalila during the 1896-97 season, and took on the role of Araquil in Jules Massenet’s La Navarraise. In 1897, he was part of the premiere of Antonio Smareglia’s La Falena at the Teatro La Fenice in Venice.

He also performed internationally, including at Covent Garden, London, in 1885 and 1887, where he sang as Don José in Carmen and Nadir in Les Pêcheurs de Perles. In 1887, he appeared at the Kroll Theatre in Berlin.

He was married to soprano Ernestina Bendazzi-Garulli (1864-1931).
