FREDERIC MARTIN (1869 – 1945)

Frederic Martin was an American bass who was active around the turn of the 20th century. He appeared as a soloist with the Boston Symphony Orchestra under Wilhelm Gericke during the 1898–1899 and 1901–1902 seasons. His documented performances include Schumann’s Manfred, Op. 115 (April 1899) and Brahms’s Liebeslieder Waltzes, Op. 52 (December 1901–January 1902) at Boston Music Hall, Symphony Hall, and Harvard University’s Sanders Theatre. Although little is known about his training or later career, these appearances place him among the professional concert singers active in Boston’s musical life at the turn of the century.
