ABBY RICHARDSON (USA, 1892 – ?)
As a child, she moved to France and became a pupil of Rose Caron in Paris. In 1910, she made her debut in Nantes, and in 1911, she created the role of Rosalia in the French premiere of Eugen d’Albert’s Tiefland at the Nice Opera. She married Pierre Chereau, the director of the Nice Opera.
For three seasons, she was engaged at the Théâtre de la Monnaie in Brussels. She frequently gave guest performances at the Opéra-Comique in Paris, the Opéra de Monte-Carlo, the Teatro Liceo in Barcelona, and various French provincial theaters. In 1938, she sang the role of Geneviève in Pelléas et Mélisande at the Vichy Casino.
Later, she taught an opera class at the Conservatoire Rachmaninoff in Paris. She also made a few recordings for Columbia.
