She began her training in her homeland, but then came to Europe and became a student of Adolf Robinson in Brno. In 1901, she made her debut at the Breslau Opera, where she remained until 1906. In 1908, she accepted a position at the Berlin Court Opera. There she was very successful; Richard Strauss cast her as Chrysothemis in the Berlin premiere of his “Elektra” in 1909. She sang the same role in 1910 at the premiere of the work at London’s Covent Garden Opera, with Edyth Walker as Elektra. During this time, she made guest appearances at the court operas of Munich (1905) and Dresden (1907), at the Wiesbaden Court Theatre (from 1907), and at the Théâtre de la Monnaie in Brussels (1914). She remained in Berlin until 1912 and then sang at the Metropolitan Opera in New York for the 1912-13 season. She sang at the San Francisco Opera in 1915-16. After that, she performed only occasionally. Odeon records exist of her bright, powerful voice, including a complete recording of “Cavalleria rusticana” in which she sings Santuzza (Berlin, 1909).
