GERALDINE FARRAR (MELROSE, MASSACHUSETTS, FEBRUARY 28, 1882 – RIDGEFIELD, CONNECTICUT, MARCH 11, 1967)

 

 

 

 

She was the daughter of the famous American baseball player Sidney Farrar. She began her singing studies under J. H. Long in Boston and then continued her education with Emma Thursby in New York. In 1899, she traveled to Paris to study with Trabadello and later furthered her training with Graziani. Her final studies were completed under the renowned soprano Lilli Lehmann in Berlin.

In 1901, she made her debut at the Berlin Hofoper as Marguerite in Faust by Charles Gounod. Her debut marked the beginning of a distinguished career in opera, and she became one of the most celebrated sopranos of her time.
