HELEN STANLEY (CINCINNATI, OHIO, 24. 2. 1889 † PENNSYLVANIA, 11. 1969)
She debuted in 1911 at the Municipal Theater in Würzburg, Germany, where she performed for a season. Returning to the U.S., she joined the Chicago Opera for the 1912–1913 season, singing roles such as Nedda (Pagliacci), Micaëla (Carmen), Maliella (I Gioielli della Madonna), and the Princess (Cendrillon). Between 1913 and 1915, she toured with the Century Opera Company, followed by a return to the Chicago Opera in the 1915–1916 season, where her portrayal of Donna Elvira (Don Giovanni) in 1915 was particularly celebrated.
During the 1920s, she performed with the Opera Company of Canada and the Philadelphia Opera. Notably, in 1928, she sang Sieglinde in Wagner’s Die Walküre. Her personal life included marriage to Loudon Charlton, a prominent American concert manager, further intertwining her legacy with the musical world.
