JOSEPH BORISSOFF (JOSEPH BORISOVICH PIASTRO) (KERCH, UKRAINE, 5 (17) II, 1889 – MONROVIA, CALIFORNIA, 14 V, 1964)
In 1912 he graduated from Saint Petersburg Conservatory, where he was a student of with Leopold Auer (at the same time he also studied composition). He gave concerts in Russian cities. Organized in St. Petersburg Quartet (named after Auer). From 1918 he toured Turkey and Greece. In 1920 he settled in the United States. He was the concertmaster of symphony Orchestra in Los Angeles, directed the Children’s Orchestra in Hollywood, and taught. Author of the opera “Lolita”, Crimean Rhapsody for violin and fp. (1920; in orc. Version isp. In San Francisco, 1938). Also known as a landscape painter. Since 1924, member. Amer. Academy of Painting.
