JULIAN OLEVSKY (BERLIN, GERMANY, MAY 7, 1926 – AMHERST, MASSACHUSETTS, USA, MAY 25, 1985)

He was the son of a professional violinist; his father taught him the violin at the age of seven. In 1935, his family left for Argentina where he became a pupil of the Russian violinist Alexander Petschnikoff (1873-1949), himself a pupil of Leopold Auer. He gave his first recital at ten and he made his debut at the age of twelve with an orchestra in Buenos Aires. There followed a series of tours in South America. In 1947, he moved to the United States and obtained the nationality of American citizen in 1951, after having made his debut in New York at Town Hall in 1949, then at Carnegie Hall in 1950. He taught at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst from 1967 to 1974.
