ISABEL MARENGO (BUENOS AIRES, ARGENTINA, 27 NOVEMBER, 1897 – ? 1977)

 

 

 

 

She lived most of her life in the city of Temperley. She studied singing, piano, and violin, completing her musical education at the Carlos López Buchardo Conservatory. She further refined her skills in Milan with Franco Ghione. Her operatic debut came in 1926 at the Teatro La Fenice in Venice, where she performed the role of Marguerite in Faust. She continued her career at Teatro alla Scala in Milan under the direction of Arturo Toscanini.

That same year, she debuted at the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires as Micaela in Carmen, and she continued to perform there until 1949. During her time at Teatro Colón, she played significant roles such as Mimì in La Bohème and the title role in Madama Butterfly. Notably, she sang alongside Beniamino Gigli, performing Nemorino for the first time in Buenos Aires. In 1937, she participated in the production of Siripo under the direction of Tullio Serafin.
