First, she received vocal lessons from Elsa Wiedermann, the former teacher of Nellie Melba, and then continued her education at the Albert Street Conservatory in Melbourne with Mary Campbell. She officially became Nellie Melba’s protégée and was affectionately called “the little Melba.” She spent six months with the famous singer in the USA, then returned to Australia before traveling again with Nellie Melba to London in 1918. During this trip, she achieved great success in the USA and made several recordings for Edison. In November 1919, she made her debut at the Royal Albert Hall in London as a concert singer. Over the next several years, she traveled throughout England and Australia and sang in North America from 1924 to 1934. Here, she primarily performed in film theaters and music halls, including the opening of the New York Capitol Theater. Later, she returned to Australia, where she continued to perform with the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC). In 1940, she finally retired from her performance career and worked in Melbourne as a vocal pedagogue.
