CARL RITTMANN (PODGÓRZE, KRAKOW, GALICIA, THEN AUSTRIA-HUNGARY, JANUARY 19, 1877 – LONDON, UK, NOVEMBER 4, 1944)
He made his debut in 1902 at the Municipal Theater of Beuthen, where he was engaged until 1904. He then continued his education and was active during the 1906–1908 seasons at the Opera House in Bern, Switzerland. From 1908 to 1910, he sang at the Municipal Theater in Bremen, and from 1910 to 1925 he was engaged by the Vienna Court Opera, where he appeared with great success. His repertoire there included Eberbach in Der Wildschütz, Valentin in Faust, Papageno in Die Zauberflöte, Wolfram in Tannhäuser, Donner in Das Rheingold, Sharpless in Madama Butterfly, Nelusco in L’Africaine, and Escamillo in Carmen. At the beginning of the 1930s, he was still living in Vienna.
