Description

LÉON PONZIO (NICE, FEBRUARY 1887 – PARIS, NOVEMBER 11, 1947)

His debut in 1910 at the Théâtre de la Monnaie in Brussels marked the beginning of a fruitful career, during which he performed in French and Italian operas. He returned to Brussels in the early 1920s and took on notable roles such as Figaro in Il Barbiere di Siviglia and Germont-père in La Traviata at the Grand Opéra in Paris in 1930.

By the mid-1930s, his reputation led him to the prestigious Covent Garden in London, where he performed as Figaro and Marcello in La Bohème. His later years were dedicated to teaching, passing on his expertise to new generations of singers in Paris. His versatility and skill in both opera and operetta made him a well-regarded figure in the European opera scene.
