MARGUERITE SYLVA (10. 7. 1875 BRUXELLES † 21. 2. 1957 GLENDALE / CALIFORNIA)

 

 

 

 

She studied vocal technique in Paris and made her debut in London as Carmen in Bizet’s Carmen. Her successful performance led her to join the Opéra-Comique in 1906, where she continued to perform Carmen and expanded her repertoire to include roles such as Santuzza in Cavalleria Rusticana, Catherine in Le Chemineau, Rose-Marie in Le Point d’Argentan, Taven in Mireille, and Mignon.

In 1909, she took her talents to the United States, performing in New York and Chicago, where she gained fame as a celebrated operetta star. She returned to Paris and appeared at the Paris Opéra in 1917 as Léonore in La Favorite, further cementing her reputation in the operatic world.
