ANNETTE (ANNA/ANNIE) TALIFERT

After completing her studies in Paris, she quickly made a name for herself. From 1920 to 1925, she sang at the Opera House in Nancy and then joined the prestigious Théâtre de la Monnaie in Brussels in 1925. Notably, in 1926, she appeared in the French-speaking premiere of Puccini’s Turandot, performing the role of Liu.

Her career flourished in Brussels for the next 15 years, where she excelled in a diverse repertoire, including dramatic and coloratura roles. She was particularly acclaimed for her interpretations of the title roles in Louise by Charpentier and Lakmé by Delibes, as well as Mélisande in Pelléas et Mélisande, Butterfly, and Mimi in La Bohème. Her versatility extended to roles like Violetta in La Traviata, Juliette in Roméo et Juliette by Gounod, and Ophélie in Hamlet by A. Thomas.

She was equally successful in concert performances, and after a distinguished career, she retired in 1940.
