Description
ARTHUR LHEUREUX (FRAMERIES, 1882 – BONSECOURS, 1950)
He first studied singing at the Conservatoire of Mons and then in Brussels under Désiré Demest. In 1909, he began his stage career at the Théâtre de la Monnaie in Brussels, where he appeared as a comprimario. In 1912, he performed at the opera house in Nancy in the premiere of Guy Ropartz’s opera Le Pays. In 1916, he was engaged by the Opéra-Comique in Paris, where he sang until 1925. During his time there, he performed roles such as Julien in Charpentier’s Louise, Des Grieux in Massenet’s Manon, Don José in Carmen, Turiddu in Cavalleria Rusticana, and Canio in Pagliacci.
He was also a prominent soloist in numerous concerts across France and in his native Belgium. From 1926 to 1948, he served as a professor and singing teacher at the Conservatoire of Mons. His few recordings, made for Parlophon, are considered extremely rare.
