HILDEGARD RANCZAK (VÍTKOVICE, 20 DECEMBER, 1895 – VIENNA, FEBRUARY, 1987)

 

 

 

 

Trained at the Vienna Conservatory under Irene Schlemmer-Ambros, she made her debut in 1919 at the Düsseldorf Opera House as Pamina in The Magic Flute, remaining there until 1923. From 1923 to 1925, she was engaged at the Cologne Opera House, and from 1926 to 1928 at the Stuttgart State Opera.

In 1928, she joined the Munich State Opera, where she remained a member until 1944. She continued to appear there as a guest and gave her final performance in 1950 as Carmen. In 1930, she participated in the world premiere of Julius Weismann’s opera Die Gespenstersonate (The Ghost Sonata).

She also enjoyed highly successful guest appearances at the Vienna State Opera (1931, 1943) and the Dresden State Opera (1927), as well as in The Hague and Amsterdam. In 1936, she sang Salome as a guest at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden in London, and in 1937 she appeared at the Paris Opera as Octavian in Der Rosenkavalier. In 1940, she was a guest artist at the Rome Opera and also performed at the Berlin State Opera.

On October 28, 1942, she sang the role of Clairon in the Munich premiere of Richard Strauss’s Capriccio. Highlights of her extensive stage repertoire included Carmen, Salome, Octavian in Der Rosenkavalier, the Dyer’s Wife in Die Frau ohne Schatten, Aithra in Die Ägyptische Helena, and Zdenka in Arabella.

She later lived in Berg on Lake Starnberg.
