ROBERT MILLER EASTON (SUNDERLAND, 8 JUNE, 1898 – SURREY, 26 MAY, 1987)
He trained in London under Bozzelli, Dinh Gilly, and Plunket Greene. He made his debut in a radio broadcast in 1924. From 1926 onward, he frequently appeared at the Promenade Concerts in London and participated in the Leeds and Sheffield music festivals, as well as the Valais National Festival. He achieved particular success in 1929 as a soloist in Handel’s Messiah under Sir Thomas Beecham in London. In 1934, he made his debut at the Covent Garden Opera in London as Fafner in Siegfried. In the following season, he performed the same role in Das Rheingold, Sparafucile in Rigoletto, and in 1937, Titurel in Parsifal. Other roles he performed at Covent Garden included the King in Aida, Colline in Puccini’s La Bohème, the Hermit in Der Freischütz, and the Father in Charpentier’s Louise. He retained his voice for a long time and continued performing in concerts well into his 80s.
