LEO CHERNIAVSKY (ODESSA, AUGUST 30, 1890 – CAPE TOWN, SEPTEMBER 18, 1974)

 

 

 

Cherniavsky came from a very musical family. He made his debut as a Cherniavsky trio in 1901 with his younger brothers Jan and Mischel. In the years 1901 to 1906 he completed a very successful European tour. In 1905 his family emigrated to Austria and settled in Vienna. In 1922 he was granted Canadian citizenship, but only lived in this country for a short time. After the farewell concert of the Cherniavsky Trio in Salt Lake City in 1934, Cherniavsky settled in Australia. There he started a solo career and also worked a lot for radio. In 1958, Cherniavsky and his brothers once again toured South Africa as a trio, but could not build on their previous success.
