PAOLO MARION (ZAGREB, JUNE 1, 1891 – RIO DE JANEIRO, JUNE 5, 1962)
His real name was Pavao Marion-Vlahović. He received his education at the Music Academy in Zagreb. In 1913, he made his debut at the Theater in Novi Sad, Serbia, and then furthered his vocal training in Vienna. From 1918, he appeared as a guest at many leading opera houses worldwide. In 1918, he performed in Budapest; the following year in Berlin; and in 1921 in Munich. He sang with great success at the Staatsoper in Vienna during the 1927-28 season and again in 1934. In 1932, he appeared at the Opéra-Comique in Paris as Cavaradossi in Tosca. During the 1933-34 season, he was a member of the Croatian National Opera in Zagreb. In 1938, he made a guest appearance at the National Opera in Belgrade and also performed at various Italian opera houses. On January 31, 1931, he sang the role of Muscar in the premiere of I. Montemezzi’s La Notte di Zoraima at La Scala. In 1939, he gave several concerts in Berlin.
