Josef Drvota was a Czech tenor whose singing career began at the Municipal Theatre in Plzeň. He later appeared at the Vinohrady Theatre in Prague, where he became known for his wide-ranging repertoire and performed numerous leading tenor roles. During his association with the Vinohrady Theatre, he also collaborated with amateur theatrical groups and helped organize the painting of a stage curtain for the theatre in Kamenný Přívoz.

During the First World War, Drvota served on the Italian Front. After the war, he was engaged by the State Opera in Ljubljana. Throughout his career, he performed a broad range of major operatic roles, including Alfredo in Verdi’s La traviata, Manrico in Il trovatore, Radamès in Aida, Turiddu in Mascagni’s Cavalleria rusticana, and Pinkerton in Puccini’s Madama Butterfly.
