MIRKO ŠTORK (PRAGUE, 2 JULY, 1880 – PRAGUE, 18 JANUARY, 1953)
He initially worked as an employee and pursued his musical education autodidactically, receiving significant encouragement from musicologist Otokar Šourek. After beginning his career as a concert singer in Prague and its surroundings, he made his stage debut in 1904 at the Prague National Theatre, performing as Gremineux in Planquette’s Les cloches de Corneville.
Following several guest performances, he joined the National Theatre in Prague in 1906, where he remained a prominent member until 1936. During his tenure, he participated in the premieres of several operas, including J. B. Foerster’s Jessica in 1905, Vítězslav Novák’s Karlštejn in 1916, and on April 23, 1920, he performed the title role in the premiere of Leoš Janáček’s The Excursions of Mr. Brouček.
His guest performances included notable appearances as Vašek in Smetana’s The Bartered Bride in cities such as Stockholm, Warsaw, Vienna, and Bucharest, as well as a performance in Chicago in 1933.
