Description
VALENTÍN ŠINDLER (CHOLÍN, CZECH REPUBLIC, JANUARY 30, 1885 – PRAGUE, CZECH REPUBLIC, JANUARY 21, 1957)
Originally, he studied theology in Olomouc, where he also received his initial musical education. He pursued vocal studies in Vienna under Robinson and in Berlin with Emerich. In 1909, he made his debut at the National Theater in Prague, performing the role of Hoffmann in J. Offenbach’s Les contes d’Hoffmann.
He became a favorite tenor of composer Leoš Janáček, establishing a notable association with Janáček’s works. Later in his career, he dedicated himself to vocal pedagogy in Brno, mentoring the next generation of singers. From 1952 to 1956, he served as a faculty member at the Music Academy in Prague.
