Description
HANS CARL GRUM MADSEN (COPENHAGEN, 14. 7. 1878 – HUMBLE, DENMARK, 4. 3. 1954)
He was the son of typographer Peter Madsen. He had a beautiful and resonant baritone voice. He was a contemporary of many great stars from the Golden Age and must have stood in the shadow of Helge Nissen and Høeberg. He was a student of Valdemar Lincke at the Royal Danish Academy of Music and made his debut on April 22, 1903, as Alberich in Siegfried at the Royal Danish Theatre, where he remained until 1940. In 1909, he studied in Bayreuth and Munich. From 1916 to 1940, he was a teacher at the Music Conservatory.
He did not record many records, and they are rarely seen. A total of 25 recordings have been found, but there may be more on Bel Canto and Pyrola. Additionally, there is also a “comedian” who recorded a few records under the name Carl Madsen on Columbia—this is not the opera singer Carl Madsen!
