GRETA SANTHAGENS-MANDERS (ROTTERDAM, NETHERLANDS 11 FEBRUARY 1891 – HILVERSUM, NETHERLANDS 1976)

 

 

 

 

She was a prominent opera singer known for her versatile roles across various opera houses in Europe.

Early Career:

  • Debut: On April 25, 1917, she made her debut with the Opera Ensemble of the Singing Academy “Cornélie van Zanten” at the Royal Theater of The Hague, performing the role of Alice in Verdi’s Falstaff.
  • Residence Opera-Association: On October 4, 1919, she sang the same role in the first performance of the newly established Residence Opera-Association of Hendrik van den Berg and Carel Butter van Hulst.

National Opera Engagement:

  • N.V. National Opera: During the 1919-1920 season, she made her debut at the N.V. National Opera of Willem Vergara Jr. She performed a range of roles, including:
    • Antoinette in Le Cage by Xavier Leroux on November 15, 1919.
    • Arsinoe in Die toten Augen by Eugen d’Albert on January 22, 1920.
    • Santuzza in Cavalleria Rusticana on February 8, 1920.
    • Lange in Le Fille de Madame Angot by C. Lecocq on April 22, 1920.
    • She also appeared in Wagnerian roles such as Brangäne in Tristan und Isolde, Venus in Tannhäuser, and Julietta in Les Contes d’Hoffmann by J. Offenbach.
