Description

HARRY DEARTH (1876 – 1933)

He attended the Royal Conservatory of Music in London. In 1894, when he was only 18, he gave his first concert in London. Then he worked for many years as a soloist with the Royal Choral Society in London’s Westminster Abbey. Accordingly, he had a career mainly as an oratorio soloist and as a lieder singer. However, in the Beecham Season of 1910 he appeared at London’s Covent Garden Opera in a number of roles: as the broom maker in E. Humperdinck’s ”Hansel and Gretel”, in the English premiere of F. Delius’s ”A Village Romeo and Juliet” (as Marti), in the demonic roles in ”Les contes d’Hoffmann” and as the title hero in ”Der fliegende Holländer” by R. Wagner. Despite great success on the stage, he continued his career exclusively in the concert field.
