ARTHUR JORDAN (DUDLEY, WORCESTERSHIRE, 1886 – WESTBOURNE, BOURNEMOUTH, 1955)
He first appeared as a baritone and was trained by Rutland Boughton, the founder of the Glastonbury School-Festival, which took place in the small village of Glastonbury in Somerset, England. He later transitioned to tenor after studying with the pedagogue Hermann Grünebaum and became renowned for his interpretations of roles in R. Wagner’s operas. During the 1922-1923 season, he performed at Covent Garden, taking on roles such as Siegfried in the Ring Cycle and Walther von Stolzing in Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg. He enjoyed a significant career, particularly for his performances in Wagner’s operas on English operatic stages as well as in concert halls.
