CARLO DEL CORSO (SAN GIULIANO TERME, 1888 – SAN GIULIANO TERME, 1977)
He made his baritone debut at the Teatro Verdi in Bologna in 1914, performing the role of Riccardo in Bellini’s I Puritani. In 1920, he appeared at the Teatro Dal Verme in Milan as Marcello in Puccini’s La Bohème and as Amonasro in Aida. In 1922, he performed at the Teatro San Carlo in Naples in the premiere of Donaudy’s opera La Flaminga. In 1924, he sang at the Teatro Petruzzelli in Bari in Mascagni’s Il piccolo Marat and Catalani’s Dejanice.
In 1925, he made guest appearances in Berlin, Budapest, and Prague as Rigoletto. In 1927, at the Teatro Nuovo in Copenhagen, he performed the role of Figaro in Rossini’s Il barbiere di Siviglia. In 1929, he appeared in Valencia, Bilbao, Zaragoza, and Barcelona, and in 1930, he sang at the Teatro Liceo in Barcelona.
Later, he transitioned to tenor. His tenor debut came in 1933 at the Teatro Puccini in Milan, performing as Dick Johnson in Puccini’s La Fanciulla del West. That same season, he appeared at the Metropolitan Opera as Radames in Verdi’s Aida, also singing Canio in Pagliacci and Turiddu in Cavalleria Rusticana, opposite Rose Ponselle as Santuzza.
In 1935, at the Teatro Verdi in Trieste, he sang the role of Ägisth in Strauss’s Elektra. He became especially renowned for his interpretation of Verdi’s Otello, performing the role in Naples, Palermo, Catania, and other cities. In 1942, he made his final stage appearance at the Teatro Politeama in Viareggio as Canio in Pagliacci, after which he returned to his birthplace, San Giuliano Terme. He made only one recording in his career.

He studied singing in Italy and made his debut in 1925 at the Teatro Carcano in Milan as the Conte di Luna in Verdi’s Il Trovatore.

CARLO FERRETTI
He began his career in 1911, appearing at the Teatro Principal in Guadalajara, Spain, as Rigoletto in Verdi’s Rigoletto. In 1912, he sang Germont in La Traviata at the Teatro Telloli in Codigoro and gave a concert at the Teatro del Giardino in St. Petersburg. The following year, he performed in concerts at the Jardin d’Hiver in Moscow and the Teatro Alexandre in Helsinki.
After several years, he appeared in the United States in 1920, performing Enrico in Lucia di Lammermoor at the Grand Opera House in Trenton, the Maryland Theatre in Harrisburg, and the Grand Opera House in Thomasville. In October of the same year, he sang Don Carlo in Verdi’s La Forza del Destino at the Teatro Metropolitan in Philadelphia.
In 1931, he appeared at the Teatro Regio in Parma as José Castro in Puccini’s La Fanciulla del West. Two years later, in February 1933, he performed Amonasro in Aida at the Broadway Theatre in New York.
