Description
ALEXIS GHASNE (SAINT-DENIS, FRANCE 1868 – ?)
His real name was Alexis Bobeuf, and he received his education at the Paris Conservatoire. He made his debut in 1892 at the Théâtre de la Monnaie in Brussels, where he remained until 1895. During his time there, he performed in the premiere of Jean Blockx’s opera Maître Martin in 1892. Afterward, he appeared in various opera houses across the French provinces, including the Opera House of Nice.
In 1897, he was engaged by the Paris Opéra-Comique, where he performed until 1919, with a brief interruption during the 1911-12 season when he returned to the Théâtre de la Monnaie. At the Opéra-Comique, he took on notable roles, including Timon in the 1906 premiere of Camille Erlanger’s opera Aphrodite.
He also made guest appearances at Covent Garden in London in 1893 and 1911, where he performed as Valentin in Charles Gounod’s Faust. He likely retired from the stage in 1919.
