PIERRE NOUGARO (TOULOUSE, FRANCE, 27 APRIL, 1904 – MARSEILLE, FRANCE, 26 OCTOBER, 1988)

 

 

 

 

After his education at the Conservatoire National de Paris, he made his debut in 1929 at the Grand Opéra in Paris as an army caller in R. Wagner’s Lohengrin. In the following years, he achieved great success with roles such as Rigoletto, Iago in Otello, Amonasro in Aida, and Scarpia in Tosca. In 1942, he joined the Opéra-Comique in Paris, making his debut as Zurga in Les Pêcheurs de perles. From that point, he maintained a significant career in both major opera houses of the French capital. On October 2, 1951, he appeared at the Opéra National de Bordeaux in the premiere of Ivan le Terrible by Georges Bizet. As late as 1955, he gave a guest performance at the Théâtre de la Monnaie in Brussels in Monna Vanna by Henri Février. In 1958, he became the manager of the urban opera houses of Rennes and Besançon.
