 ROBERT JYSOR (NEUILLY-SAINT-FRONT, 23/05/1893 – LES MUREAUX, 05/11/1982)

 

 

 

 

His real name was Robert Bidaut. His father, a doctor, died during World War I. Robert received his first vocal lessons from his mother, who was also a singer. He began his career performing in Montmartre cabarets, where he was noticed by the director of the Gaîté-Lyrique, who helped him join the troupe alongside notable artists such as Louise Dhamarys, Georges Foix, and Leon Ponzio. He performed baritone roles in operettas like Rip, Les Saltimbanques, and Le Grand Mongol (1922).

He participated in the premieres of Amour de Princesse by Louis Urgel (October 1923) and La Hussarde by Félix Fourdrain (February 1925). On October 9, 1926, he made his debut at the Opéra-Comique in Manon. His repertoire there included roles in Les contes d’Hoffmann, La Traviata, Pagliacci, Lakmé, and Hérodiade. He also appeared in the premieres of Le Poirier de Misère by Marcel Delannoy (1927) and Resurrection by Franco Alfano (1927).

Between 1928 and 1930, he performed at the Ba-Ta-Clan, a venue directed by Jean Casanova at 50 boulevard Voltaire, where he shared the stage with performers like Rozani, Henri Monval, Régianne, Clairefeuille, and Jane Morlet. He took on roles such as De Montlandry in Le Petit Duc, Jean Robichon in La Cocarde de Mimi Pinson, Brissac in Les Mousquetaires au Couvent, Pippo in La Mascotte, Surcouf in Surcouf, Rodolphe in La Petite Mariée, and Didier in La Teresina.

In 1931, following a change in management and a series of disagreements with the Opéra-Comique, he left the theater. He then joined André Randall, Xavier Lemercier, R. Vincent, J. Brochard, F. Saala, R. Carlez, V. Troïzka, and E. Carise on the stage of the Folies-Bergère. In 1932, he appeared in a series of short films made for Paramount, directed by Karkoff, alongside Champini and Tramel.

He continued his career in music halls, performing at Bobino in 1934 with Marianne Oswald and Mireille, at the Théâtre de Belleville in 1935 with La Houppa, and in 1938 with Georgette Plana, Pierre Clarel, and Antonin Berval at the Alhambra. In 1938, he also performed on Radio des Mélodies, a show by Marcel Vidal-Saint-André. After World War II, his career gradually slowed. One of his final appearances was in 1951 at the Théâtre du Châtelet, performing opposite Luis Mariano and Janes Rhodes.
