JEAN-FRANÇOIS DELMAS (LYON, 14 APRIL, 1861- SAINT ALBAN DE MONTHEL, 29 SEPTEMBER, 1933)

 

 

 

 

First, he studied in Lyon under the pedagogue Mangin, then at the Paris Conservatory with R. Bussine and the famous bass Louis-Henri Obin. He made his debut in 1886 at the Grand Opéra of Paris as Saint-Bris in Meyerbeer’s Les Huguenots. He performed at the Grand Opéra until 1927, singing more than 40 roles and participating in several significant premieres. He took part in the premieres of Le Sceptre by Eugène d’Harcourt (February 14, 1902) and Roma by Massenet (February 17, 1912) at the Monte Carlo Opera. In 1924, he appeared at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, Paris, in the premiere of Léon Sachs’ opera Les Burgraves. Delmas also performed at the Théâtre de la Monnaie in Brussels in 1906 and 1909.
