PIERRE ERNEST DUPRÉ (PAU, 1 AUGUST, 1884 – ? 22 MARCH, 1980)

 

 

 

 

He studied singing at the Paris Conservatoire and, in 1909, was engaged by the Paris Opéra-Comique, where he debuted as François in Le Chemineau by Xavier Leroux. In 1910, he appeared at the Opéra-Comique in the premiere of Le Mariage de Télémaque by Claude Terrasse, performing the role of Eumée. In 1912, he gained notable success in Les Contes d’Hoffmann. In 1922, he sang the role of Simone in the French premiere of Puccini’s Gianni Schicchi, and in 1923, he performed in the premiere of Pepita Jiménez by Albéniz. He continued his career until the 1940s, with a repertoire that included roles such as Arkel in Pelléas et Mélisande, Leporello in Don Giovanni, Nilakantha in Lakmé by Delibes, Alfonso in Così fan tutte, and Maclorton in La Dame Blanche by Boieldieu. In 1931, he appeared in the premiere of Cantegril by Roger Ducasse. He later became a highly respected pedagogue, teaching notable singers such as Marisa Ferrer, Marisa Beaujon, Henri Médus, Georges Thill, and Elsa Ruhlmann.
