JUSTE NIVETTE (PARIS, FRANCE, 09-06-1866 – VILLEPINTE (SEINE-SAINT-DENIS), FRANCE, 18-02-1922)
He studied at the Paris Conservatory and made his debut in 1892 at the Opéra-Comique in Paris as Sarastro in The Magic Flute. In the following years, he achieved his first successes in the French provinces, particularly at the opera house in Monte Carlo, where he performed in the premiere of Massenet’s Le Jongleur de Notre-Dame on February 18, 1902. From 1899 to 1908, he was a member of the Grand Opéra in Paris. In the renowned 1909 production of The Magic Flute at the Opéra-Comique, conducted by Reynaldo Hahn, he sang alongside Marguerite Carré, Lucette Korsoff, Edmond Clément, and Lucien Fugère. In 1907, he made a guest appearance at La Scala as Hagen in Götterdämmerung, under the direction of Arturo Toscanini. In 1909, he performed in the opening season of the new opera house in Boston, singing the role of Alvise in Ponchielli’s La Gioconda. He then continued his career in France.
