LOUIS MORTURIER (ST. PIERRE-LE MOUTIER, FRANCE, 2-12-1888 – CHATOU (YVELINES), FRANCE, 12-05-1969)

 

 

 

 

He originally planned to become a horn player. At the age of 16, he played the horn in various orchestras. After completing his military service from 1909 to 1911, he studied singing at the Conservatoire de Paris under Guillamat and Sizes. In 1914, he was called to serve in the French army and participated in World War I until 1919. He distinguished himself several times, earning the rank of officer in the Légion d’Honneur and receiving the Croix de Guerre.

In 1919, he made his debut at the Opéra-Comique in Paris, where he remained until 1945. In 1923, he appeared in the premiere of Darius Milhaud’s La brébis égarée, and in 1924, in Henri Rabaud’s L’Appel de la Mer at the Opéra-Comique. During World War II, he interrupted his career but resumed in 1944. That same year, he performed in the premiere of Henri Sauguet’s La gageure imprévue at the Opéra-Comique. After retiring from the Opéra-Comique, he continued to make guest appearances at the Strasbourg Opera and the Municipal Theater of Mulhouse.
