Description
AMÉLIE TALEXIS (TOULOUSE, 1875 – CALAIS, 1911, 8/11)
She first studied at the Conservatory of Toulouse, then took singing lessons from Rondile and Lhérie in Paris. She made her debut in 1899 at the opera house in Bordeaux as Marguerite in Gounod’s Faust. During the 1900-1901 season, she performed at the opera house in New Orleans and later guested at the opera houses of Nice, Nantes, and Antwerp. She also appeared at the Teatro Liceo in Barcelona in Aida and performed in several Italian theaters.
In 1906, she performed at La Scala, taking on the role of Donna Anna in Don Giovanni. She likely sang in Buenos Aires, Havana, and Mexico City as well. Sadly, she died in a tragic accident in a hotel in Calais while preparing to travel to England. Her husband was the distinguished French baritone Henri Berriel.
