Description

ANNA TARIOL-BAUGÉ (CLERMONT-FERRAND, FRANCE, 28 AUGUST, 1872 – ASNIÈRES, FRANCE, 1 DECEMBER, 1944)

She studied singing under the pedagogues F. M. Boyer and Mme. Peschard and began her career at the Grand Théâtre in Bordeaux, where she appeared in operas such as Carmen, Mignon, Werther, and Faust. She made guest appearances in Russia and soon achieved great success in operettas. In Marseille, she sang in Le Royaume des Femmes and La Belle Hélène by J. Offenbach. She toured the French provinces and North Africa. She made her debut at the Nouveau Théâtre in Paris in Suppé’s Boccaccio, which led to sensational success. After her appearance at the Théâtre Eldorado in Paris, she became a prominent star of the Théâtre des Bouffes Parisiens, where she performed in the premieres of several operettas:

Agathe by Messager on December 10, 1898

Joséphine in Joséphine vendue par ses soeurs by Lecocq

Her career reached its peak when she sang the role of Fiorella in J. Offenbach’s operetta Les Brigands in 1900 at the Théâtre des Variétés in Paris. Later, she achieved excellent success there in the title role of Véronique. In 1925, she performed at the Opéra-Comique in Paris in a revival of Véronique (together with her son). Toward the end of her career, she appeared in musical revues, including performances at the Casino de Paris and the Moulin Rouge. She was married to the music pedagogue Baugé. Their son, André Baugé (1892-1966), became a well-known baritone.
