EDMÉE FAVART (PARIS, FRANCE, 1879 – MARSEILLE, FRANCE, 29 OCTOBER, 1941)

Her father, Edmond Favart, was a baritone. She made her debut at the age of 15 at the Théâtre des Variétés in Paris in Le petit Duc by Charles Lecocq. She then performed in Brussels and at the Théâtre Gaîté-Lyrique in Paris. Continuing her studies under the guidance of Hettich and Isnardon, she gained recognition for her sparkling performances at renowned operetta theaters in Paris, including the Théâtre Mogador, Théâtre Châtelet, and Théâtre Marigny.

In 1912 and 1914, she appeared in gala performances of operettas at the Paris Grand Opéra. Her career was particularly distinguished in the French operetta scene, and in 1923 she performed the title role in the premiere of Reynaldo Hahn’s operetta Ciboulette at the Théâtre des Variétés.

In 1915, she was engaged by the Opéra-Comique in Paris, where she performed regularly until 1925. Her debut role at the Opéra-Comique was Mignon in Ambroise Thomas’s opera. During her time there, her repertoire included Cherubino in Le Nozze di Figaro, Despina in Così fan tutte, Rose Friquet in Maillart’s Les Dragons de Villars, Micaëla in Carmen, Rozenn in Lalo’s Le Roi d’Ys, Mimì in La Bohème, Manon in Massenet’s Manon, Colette in Messager’s La Basoche, Hélène in Véronique, and Catherine in the premiere of Charles Levadé’s La Rôtisserie de la Reine Pédauque in 1920.

In 1917, she performed at the Municipal Theater of Zurich. In 1940, after leaving Paris, she moved to Marseille, where she passed away shortly thereafter.
