GERMAINE MARTINELLI (PARIS, FRANCE, 30 SEPTEMBER, 1887 – PARIS, FRANCE, 8 APRIL, 1964)
She studied singing under Jean Lassalle, Jean Bourbon, Grandubert, and A. Petit. She made her debut in 1908 in Paris under her maiden name, Germaine Jobert. She later married the actor Charles Martinelli and subsequently performed under his name. Beginning in 1912, first in France and then in other European countries, she enjoyed a successful career as a concert singer. In Paris, she appeared as a soloist at the Concerts Lamoureux, the Concerts Pasdeloup, and the Concerts du Conservatoire. She toured extensively in Holland, Belgium, Switzerland, and Spain.
In 1936, she achieved great success at the Grand Opéra in Paris as Marguerite in Hector Berlioz’s La damnation de Faust. She also contributed to the field of music education in Paris. Her son, Jean Martinelli, became an actor and was engaged by the Comédie-Française in Paris.
