JANE LINDSAY (PARIS, FRANCE, 1878 – ?)

Her parents, originally from St. Louis, emigrated to France after the American Civil War. She studied singing in Paris, where she made her debut in 1903 at the Grand Opéra. In 1905, she performed the role of Constance in the première of Mozart’s Die Entführung aus dem Serail, which took place 123 years after its original premiere.

During her time at the Grand Opéra, she also portrayed roles such as Sidonie in Armide, Marguerite in Faust, Elsa in Lohengrin, and Eva in Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg. She remained with the Grand Opéra until 1907 and enjoyed considerable success at the Opéra de Monte-Carlo as well.

As part of the Monte-Carlo ensemble, she made guest appearances in various cities, including Berlin, where she performed in La Damnation de Faust and Don Carlo in 1907. She retired from the stage around 1910.
