Description

JANE MARIGNAN (NÎMES, FRANCE, 19 AUGUST, 1873 – PARIS, FRANCE, 1924)

She studied singing at the Paris Conservatoire under notable teachers, including Melchissèdec and Mangin. In 1895, she won the prestigious Prix of the Paris Conservatoire and made her debut that same year at the Opéra-Comique in Paris, performing the title role in Victor Massé’s opera Galathée.

After her debut, she spent some time performing at various French provincial opera houses but returned to the Opéra-Comique in 1899. During her time there, she took on roles such as Eurydice in Gluck’s Orphée, Donna Elvira in Mozart’s Don Giovanni, Alice Ford in Verdi’s Falstaff, Manon in Massenet’s Manon, and Musetta in Puccini’s La Bohème.

Following her successful years at the Opéra-Comique, she undertook tours, performing in more provincial opera houses. In 1908, she was engaged by the Théâtre Lyrique in Paris. It is believed that she retired from the stage around 1910.
