LISE LANDOUZY (LE CATEU, 1861 – AIX-LES-BAINS, 1943)

Her real name was Elise Besville. In 1889, she made her debut at the Opéra-Comique in Paris as Rosina in Il Barbiere di Siviglia. She enjoyed great success at this opera house, and in 1894, she sang the role of Nannetta in the French premiere of Verdi’s Falstaff, with the composer himself present. On February 20, 1901, she performed the role of Clorinde in the premiere of Gabriel Pierné’s opera La fille de Tabarin at the Opéra-Comique. Additionally, on May 30, 1890, she appeared in the premiere of André Messager’s La Basoche.

From 1895, Elise Besville regularly performed as a guest at the Théâtre de la Monnaie in Brussels. She also made guest appearances at opera houses in Monte Carlo, Nice, and Aix-les-Bains. After retiring from the stage, she taught singing in Paris.
