MARCELLE RAGON (ALGIERS, 1892  – PARIS, 17. 09. 1955)

 

 

 

 

She studied singing at the conservatoires of Algiers and Paris. She made her debut in 1916 at the Opéra-Comique in Paris, where she performed until 1919. After that, she sang opera roles at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées and the Théâtre Lyrique in Paris, including the role of Octavie in Cléopâtre by Massenet. Concurrently, she appeared in operettas at the Théâtre Marigny and the Théâtre Mogador in Paris. At the Théâtre Mogador, she performed 100 times in the operetta La Mascotte by Audran and also took part in the premiere of the operetta Violettes Impériales by Vincent Scotto in 1948.

She continued her opera career with guest appearances at French provincial theaters. During the 1930-1931 season, she performed at the Théâtre Lyrique in Paris in Rossini’s Wilhelm Tell, Boieldieu’s La Dame blanche, and Nouguès’s Quo vadis?. In the 1930-1932 seasons, she was again active at the Opéra-Comique, appearing in Le joueur de viole by Laparra and Angélique by Ibert. She was also known for her work as a song interpreter. In the 1947-1950 seasons, she returned to the Théâtre Mogador.
