Description
MARGUERITE REVEL
Very little detailed biographical information about her has survived, but she left a noticeable mark on the history of early sound recording.
Career: She performed actively in Paris and collaborated with the famous Opéra-Comique theatre.
Recordings: Revel was one of the artists whose voices were recorded on the very first sound media. In the early 1900s, she recorded vocals for Edison Gold Molded Cylinders. Repertoire: Her performances have preserved classical operatic arias and French romances.
Key recordings include parts from Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s operas (such as Idomeneo and Zauberflöte), as well as popular works from the French repertoire of the time (including excerpts from Charles Lecoq’s operetta La fille de Madame Angot).
